Award Winning Fantasy with a Twist!

Survivalists…

…come in all sizes. This year, I have 3 spiny orb-weavers. They’re dapper little spiders, so tiny they can easily be overlooked, but very striking. They’re round with striped black and white bellies like fat little Fred Astaires, and they live in the middle of large webs that might have been drawn, they’re such neat and tidy hexagons.

Those regular webs are why spiny back orb weavers are sometimes known as kite spiders or crab spiders. Like most spiders, they’re harmless, a threat only to passing insects, too high up to be in the way of a hungry snake and, amazingly, still hanging from the eves after a week of storms!
